The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a man to safety, after he injured his hip, while sailing on board his yacht, off the north-western side of K’gari (Fraser Island).
The rescue chopper crew was called to help the boatie, just after 3:30pm.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue pilot was able to land the helicopter on a stretch of beach near where the man was stuck on his yacht.
The aeromedical crew decided the safest way to retrieve the patient, was to carefully move him off the boat and then winch him into the aircraft.
The team made their way across sand dunes and waded through water to reach the injured boatie.
Once the crew arrived at the yacht, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic treated the patient, before he was secured into a stretcher.
The crew then carried the patient, to a safer place for him to be winched from.
The pilot flew to their location and the patient was hoisted into the helicopter.
The man, who is aged in his 70s, was flown to the Hervey Bay Hospital for further treatment, in a stable condition.
