LifeFlight locates missing fishing boat off K’gari

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew located a missing fishing boat after it capsized off K’gari this morning.

The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 8.15am as part of a multi-agency response including Queensland Water Police, Marine Rescue Queensland and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

The vessel’s crew set off an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) following engine failure and the helicopter located the upturned boat southwest of Sandy Cape.

Three people including an adult male and two teenagers were able to swim to shore and were unharmed.

The LifeFlight helicopter landed on the beach and the aircrew helped to pull the vessel to the shore.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
