The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted a grandmother to hospital, after she crashed down a three metre roadside ditch, while driving to a grandchild’s graduation event.
The woman was driving directly behind her husband, who was travelling in a separate vehicle.
She was reportedly rounding a bend, when she lost control of her car, which ran off the road and flipped end over end into the ditch.
Emergency services responded to the crash scene in the Gympie region and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked just after 9am. (Sat 11th Sept)
The patient’s husband was present as Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and the aeromedical team worked together to transfer the injured woman into the waiting rescue chopper, which had landed nearby.
The woman, aged in her seventies, suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
