Seriously injured survivors airlifted from highway crash

Three rescue helicopters, including the Toowoomba and Brisbane RACQ LifeFlight Rescue choppers, have responded to a serious crash this morning.

The aircraft were called after 10am to a stretch of highway, west of Toowoomba, where a semi-trailer and four wheel drive had collided at an intersection.

Six people had been travelling in the four wheel drive.

The Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter, was the first aircraft to land at the scene.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel were all on the scene, when the aeromedical team arrived.

Several passengers in the 4WD were reportedly trapped for some time.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was treated for serious injuries, before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, by the Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew.

A high school-aged child was flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital, in the Brisbane RACQ LifeFlight Rescue aircraft.

It’s believed the Queensland Government Air helicopter also airlifted a patient to Brisbane.

All patients who were airlifted, each travelled under the care of an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Flight Nurse, or QAS Paramedic
