Two men airlifted from Fraser Island BBQ blaze

The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter airlifted two men to hospital, after they suffered burns in a barbeque accident on Fraser Island, this afternoon. (Fri 11th)

The pair was reportedly struggling to light a barbeque, near a holiday home on the eastern side of the island, when accelerant ignited, setting fire to their clothes.

The rescue helicopter was sent to the island just after 1.30pm.

The pilot landed the aircraft at Orchid Beach airstrip, in heavy rain.

The aeromedical crew was taken by four wheel drive to the incident scene, where local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) officers were treating the two men.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue QAS Flight Paramedic assisted in treating the patients, before they were transported back to the waiting helicopter.

The men, one aged in his sixties and one in his seventies, were in a stable condition when they were flown to Bundaberg Hospital, suffering burns to their faces and limbs.
